Spending My Time

Hi dudez! You like the kitty cats? If you want more, click on: kitty cats. Very cute! Anyway, sorry for not posting in a while, but nothing much has happened really. There was school. There was reading for school. There was going out for a drink. And there was a party! With bad, bad music! So I decided to get drunk! But it didn't help! So that was it.

Gute Woche euch allen!!

Do You Have a Flag?

Hello, pretty people (don't worry, you're all pretty to me)! Today was pimp your University-day at school with a round of show but only tell if you're asked. I.e., we all sat for four hours at carefully decorated tables in the cafeteria waiting for other students to ask us about our country and/or University.

In more exciting news, Canada is finally starting to keep its promises - we're hovering around -20° Celsius and there's snow! That's what me and my odlo-thermal underwear are talking about! Now if someone were to beam my beloved Alps and my snowboard gear over, I'd be a very happy bunny!

Oh, and on a totally unrelated note: could someone please teach these damn Canadians how to make Pizza? They claim to be selling it everywhere, but honey, I can assure you, that tasteless lump of dough may be a lot of things, but Pizza it is not.

Da kam natürlich keiner gegen an.

Work / Life Balance

Ave, my devoted readers! Aena is back from the dead sick! Back to my old self, I now have made a final selection of my courses, bought all the books (Thieves!! Money stealing bastards! No book can be worth that much!) and dealt with all the grief and anger the realization, that this is going to be a tough semester, brought with it. This is the point, where I pretend, that you care, which courses I'm taking:
  • International Technology Transfer Management
  • Conflict Management (all girls!)
  • IT Project Management (all boys!)
And this is the point, where you pretend you're going to remember them! Anyway, to celebrate spending all my money on something as exciting as a project management book, I went out with the exchange students to a "Soirée Québécoise". Live music, drinking, dancing. Sounds like fun, doesn't it? And it was!

Upcoming features:

  • Montréal Pro / Con List
  • In-depth Report of HEC Montréal

Meine lieben Freunde der Nacht! Ich bin von den Toten Kranken auferstanden! Ausserdem hab ich jetzt meine definitive Kursliste zusammen, hab die dazugehörigen Bücher schon gekauft (Hinterlistige Diebe! Lumpenpack!

Lokal "Les Deux Pierrots" fand. Livemusik, Bier und Tanz. Klingt lustig? War es auch!

Demnächst:

  • Montréal - Pro und Kontra!
  • Fakten, Fakten, Fakten - die HEC Montréal im Fokus

I'm Not Sick - My Body Is Just Overflowing With Awesome!

Hola! So, ice skating went well. Not exactly what we're used to back home (for starters the ice skating rink was in the middle of a mall's food court) and the ice pretty much sucked until they cleaned it. And so many people! By the time we left they were queing almost all the way around the rink! Anyway, we had fun, in spite of the hangover. In the evening we then went on to meet our "buddies" at a dinner. It's just like our buddysystem in St. Gallen that we have for our exchange students - every buddy is assigned one or more exchange students and is basically just there for them if they have any questions or need anything.

Sunday I woke up with a nasty cough but decided to go along for the activities anyway, which was totally worth it - we first went to a place where we got to slide down a hill on big rubber tires! Fun! Then dinner, and finally they took us to a really nice spa. I'm paying the price now though - I totally got sick, of course. Oh well. I did go to my first lectures yesterday though and they were really interesting. So this semester should be a lot of work, but at least it looks like it's gonna be stuff I'm actually interested in. I think this calls for another "yay"!

Also Eislaufen war lustig.

Hey-Ho, Let's Go!

Question: what happens, if you take a large group of exchange students out for lots of beer, play drinking games, give them pretty plastic necklaces and call it a Pub Crawl? Answer: This.
So yeah, I met the other exchange students and the people from the HEChange and have been pretty busy since - administrative stuff, tour of the school, tour of the city, information overload. And today we go ice skating. No idea who had the brilliant idea to put a couple dozen hung over exchange students on an ice skating rink, but whatever. Maybe I'll get lots of pictures of people falling down! Yay!

Cultural Learnings of Montréal for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Me

Hello Sportsracers! (ok, I'm shamelessly stealing this expression from zefrank - sorry!)

So, today you'll get a small summary of places I've seen since I got here:

  • St.-Sulpice: Supposedly one of the most popular bars in Montréal. I get why - fun music, lots of beer, nice people (at least the ones I was there with). And it's in walking distance from my apartment! Yay!
  • Le Diable Vert: Supposedly a place I'll be hanging out a lot at, with other HEC students. I didn't like the music though. Nor the atmosphere. And the beer was expensive. And the people were not that much fun. I went there with a group of couchsurfers and while I love the concept of the site, the people were either a tad on the boring side or really cool and fun but very aware that they were cool and fun. So not really my crowd, sorry.
  • Peel Pub: Very fun sports bar in a cool quarter. And cheep beer! Lots and lots of screens to watch hockey on! And the Montréal Canadians won! Yay!
  • Casino de Montréal: Very pretty from the outside, nice and tasteful christmas decorations. But so many slotmachines! And very sad people playing them...But the horse race with the little plastic horsies was fun! GoGoGo!
  • La Banquise: 24-hour-Poutine, not too expensive, nice atmosphere. Thumbs up!
  • My apartment: Nice roommate, lots of booze, two cute kitty cats. What else is there to say?

Liebe Liebenden,

Me likey.
Hopp, hopp, hopp, Pferdchen lauf galopp!
  • La Banquise: 24-Stunden-Poutine in 300 Variationen, nette Atmosphäre und bezahlbar. Schön.
  • Meine Wohnung: Liebe Annie, süsse Kätzchen, Musik, Internet (!) und Alkohol. You're at home, baby!

Happy New Year!

Hello my dears, I hope you all had a smooth transition from the awesomeness that was 2006 to the awesomeness that will be 2007! I for one stayed surprisingly sober (or at least close enough to something resembling sober) - surprising because my roommate and I started drinking the bottle of Sake she got for christmas at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and we kept that level going for the rest of the evening.
After the now legendary Sake-drinking session we headed on over to her friends' house who were hosting a New Year's party with B.Y.O.B. and a $5 all-you-can-eat-buffet. There was music, there was counting-down-till-midnight-together-with-a-TV-channel, there was playing with a balloon, there was drinking, there was smoking and there were some fun people. Oh, and let's not forget the Spongebob Squarepants-themed bathroom! Words can not describe it, so you're lucky I took pictures!

Yippee!
